The DKNY Tank Top of My Dreams… Thursday, Aug 31 2006

If only this pretty tank top came in my size, I would totally snatch it up. Maybe two. It’s rare that I find something I can buy eLUXURY without feeling guilty about the price. It would look good on almost anybody in any season.

Girlshop Sale Finds Thursday, Aug 31 2006

While I tend to find some Girlshop clothes a little to trendy and poorly cut for my taste, it is a great store for finding one of a kind items. Here’s a few things from their summer sale I really like – and they’re so classy no one would expect where you got them!

Love-Life Debutante Dress ($156)

This is a great dress for smaller chested women. I would probably pair it with a shawl or shrug for a little more coverage.

Love-Life Party Dress ($110)

I think the scroll pattern on this dress is amazingly chic. This dress is trendy, but black and white is always classic.

Na Na K Printed Summer Dress ($119)

This is the kind of dress I would have ignored a month ago (when it was in season!), but it reminds me a lot of something Uli from Project Runway would design. Very fun – with a very flattering cut.

Cyn & Lucia Dramatic Ring One Piece ($127)

Most women look sexier in a well cut one-piece (even Paris Hilton). This suit would show off any bikini worthy body with a little more subtle sexiness.

Bluefly Cashmere Finds Tuesday, Aug 29 2006

Cashmere has certainly been getting cheaper over the last few years, and while that’s brought prices down for it across the board, it does mean that there’s some lower quality cashmere floating around. I say spend a little more to get an ultra soft, well made sweater. Bluefly has a lot great cashmere sweaters right now, and while they cost twice as much as cashmere from the Gap, they’re twice as stylish (at least) and almost certainly higher quality.

Hayden peacock 12gg cashmere crewneck sweater ($85)

This sweater comes in many colors – peacock just happened to be my favorite. At this price, I would definitely stock up on a few.

Autumn Cashmere – plum cashmere wrap sweater ($144)

This also comes in a nice variety of colors. And the cut seems very figure flattering.

Autumn Cashmere – ink cashmere argyle v-neck sweater  ($169)

I love argyle with a modern twist like this – the v-neck is sexy yet still classy. This sweater comes in a few color combinations, but I liked this one the best.

Comfortable Kenneth Cole Shoes Monday, Aug 28 2006

My newest shopping addiction is Kenneth Cole shoes. They’re so comfortable and stylish – and can be pretty affordable. I got these two pairs from Bluefly today, and they’re super cute.

Kenneth Cole Reaction – dark brown leather ‘Plant a Cede’ wedges ($43)

I am starting to come around to both wedges and Mary Jane type shoes. These shoes never look good to me online, but I’m always pleased with how they look on my feet.

Kenneth Cole New York – blue patent ‘Marcia Braidy’ slingbacks ($172)

These shoes are amazingly cute and worth the price for a splurge. They’re less Marcia Brady than the name implies, and they look awesome with jeans.

Versace Sunglasses for $34 Sunday, Aug 27 2006

Overstock seems to have a good variety of Versace sunglasses for under $100 (and sometimes even under $50). Check back often, because these go fast. I found some today that I liked – just in time, because my sunglasses are on their last leg!

I was hoping to score a brown pair, but they were all out. I opted for black instead. And while the Black / Clear / Silver ones are a little trendy, at $34 they’re a good splurge.

Tahari Suits – $99 to $129 Sunday, Aug 27 2006

I often have trouble finding suits that have a feminine cut without looking too girly. I am partial to Tahari suits. They are fairly reasonable yet still very stylish. I really like their modern, structured cut. Occasionally, Tahari sells a distressed or frayed blazer – but usually their suits are a classic and business appropriate. Here are some favorites I found on Overstock today:

Tahari ASL Peak Lapel 3-piece Set ($129)

Pair this with great pumps and you’ve got a conservative yet chic professional look.

Tahari ASL Four-button Herringbone Suit $99

I think that this suit would be super slimming, and appropriate to wear year round. The Herringbone print and tailored waist are quite flattering.

Tahari Grey / Pink / Black Two-Piece Skirt Suit $119

This suit is only slightly pink – and the right blend of smart and feminine. I would wear it, and I’m not a fan of pink on suits!

Not So Summery Shoe Sale Sunday, Aug 27 2006

I was just browsing through some Victoria’s Secret Sale Items (they do pretty well for some neutral basics), and I found a few pairs of super cheap sandals. While these are meant to be summer shoes, I think they would do quite nicely for fall and winter – depending on where you live. I can’t personally speak for the quality of these shoes, but the style seems very upscale. And for under $20, they’re definitely worth a try. They would all look great with jeans and evening wear.

Gold Strappy Sandal ($17)

Black H-Band Sandal ($20)

Corset Slide Sandal ($15)

Diane Von Furstenberg Wrap Dress Sunday, Aug 27 2006

I am currently obsessed with Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dresses. Unlike many “ready to wear” dresses, these really are ready to wear – you just adjust them to fit you. They are super flattering for almost any body type – and it’s no wonder they’ve been flying off the shelves. You can certainly pay retain for the DvF dress of your dreams, but I like to bargain hunt a little. Bluefly occasionally has good deals on these dresses, but you have to be lightening fast to get them. And stay away from Ebay, where almost all the dresses are fakes.

Your best bet for discount Diane Von Furstenberg dresses is YOOX. While you won’t get a Bluefly deal, they actually have some dresses in stock. You’ll end up getting three DvF dresses for the price of two this way. Stick to solid colors or more classic prints for a timeless dress. Some of these prints get pretty wild and may not stand the test of time. Here’s my pick for some DvF wrap dresses that will stay in your closet for many years.

Silk Dark Purple Diane Von Furstenberg Wrap Dress ($288)

Even though this dress is purple, it’s dark enough to pose as a neutral. A lot like a vintage DvF dress, but with better fabric.

Black Jersey Diane Von Furstenberg Dress with Satin Sash ($380)

A change of shoes and jewelry can change this dress from day to night easily.

Blue Floral Diane Von Furstenberg Wrap Dress ($322)

This floral pattern is retro and funky, yet not overpowering. Perfect for a weekend look.

How to Wear (and Not to Wear) Leopard Print Saturday, Aug 26 2006

I am tired of trying to remember whether animal prints are in or out! The truth is animal print is always stylish when worn correctly (and always tacky when worn wrong).

Animal prints look great as a tiny accent, like with these Alexander McQueen brown leopard pony loafer pumps:

Another option would be an animal print belt or bag. Just keep it minimal, and you’ll never look trendy. More importantly you won’t get sick of this look.

A bad way to wear animal prints? These Constanca Basto boots. While maybe someone out there can carry them off, they just look a tad trashy to me.

5 Little Black Dresses Under $200 Saturday, Aug 26 2006

Bluefly is having a great sale, but as usual, the best items are going pretty quickly. In my opinion, sales like these are a great chance to stock up on timeless wardrobe staples like little black dresses. Here are my five favorites.

1) Chetta B – black beaded chiffon halter dress ($159)

This halter dress seems ultra flattering and forgiving. It’s unique enough to go beyond a normal little black dress, but the embellishments are small enough to be classic.

2) Vera Wang – black jersey tulle shirred dress ($183)

This isn’t quite as flattering as the Chetta B dress above, but I think it would be pretty forgiving for most body types – especially when paired with silver high heels.

3) Betsey Johnson – black floral embroidered strapless dress ($129)

I love little black dresses that have a touch of color. This dress can be instantly more chic with a pretty cream shawl or scarf.

4) Tadashi – beaded black lace dance dress ($151)

This dress has a lightly padded bust, and it would look especially good on small chested / boyish figures. Black lace is not a favorite of mine, but somehow, this dress really pulls it off!

5) Betsey Johnson – black clover leaf halter dress ($111)

Black and white for evening tends to look cheesy or chic (usually the former!). I think this dress really does black and white well, in a not too formal way. And even though it’s very unique looking, I think the cut keeps it pretty classic.
